MATLAB
Computing numerical solutions, simulating systems, and analysing engineering data
MATLAB is a commercial numerical computing environment and programming language developed by MathWorks, designed for matrix operations, algorithm development, signal processing, and system simulation. Engineers and scientists use it to model physical systems, process experimental data, design control systems, and implement and test algorithms before porting them to production languages. The Simulink add-on provides block-diagram simulation for dynamic systems, making MATLAB and Simulink the standard environment in aerospace, automotive, and controls engineering. MATLAB's toolboxes extend it to domains including statistics, image processing, machine learning, and communications systems. It remains the dominant technical computing environment in engineering and scientific research despite competition from open-source alternatives.
